Ronald Winokur MD, FSIR, FAVLS, RPVI, is a board-certified Interventional Radiologist/Diagnostic Radiologist with disease specific focus on Venous Disorders that has evolved throughout his practice and leading to his current position as the Director of the Weill Cornell Vein Treatment Center at Weill Cornell Medicine, NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital.
Dr. Winokur earned his B.S. with Cum Laude Honors in Biomedical Engineering from Tulane University and subsequently earned his M.D. at Thomas Jefferson University Jefferson Medical College. Following an internship in internal medicine at The Lankenau Hospital, Dr. Winokur trained as a resident in Diagnostic Radiology at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, where he also elected as Chief Resident. He then completed his fellowship in Interventional Radiology at New York Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medicine before starting on staff as an Assistant Professor of Radiology at Weill Cornell Medicine. From 2019-2021, he moved to Thomas Jefferson University Hospital where he became Associate Professor of Radiology and Director of Venous Interventions. In 2022, he rejoined the faculty at Weill Cornell Medicine as the Director of the Weill Cornell Vein Treatment Center.
Dr. Winokur's clinical expertise is the minimally invasive treatment of venous conditions spanning the full spectrum of venous disease including varicose veins, spider veins, pelvic venous disorders, deep vein thrombosis (DVT), and pulmonary embolism (PE). Throughout his career he has participated in many aspects of research trials in the in venous disease including ATTRACT, C-TRACT, CLOUT registry, Veniti Trial, and PERFECT registry. Dr. Winokur’s strongest passion in advancing the care of venous disease is in Pelvic Venous Disorders where he has numerous publications and is currently finalizing a randomized controlled trial to evaluate the impact of ovarian vein embolization on venous origin chronic pelvic pain.
