Kristan Probeck is a certified adult nurse practitioner (ANP-C) at Stony Brook University Medical Center, Division of Vascular Surgery. She has been in healthcare for 30 years and an ANP-C since 2010. She is a member of the Venous Thromboembolism (VTE) Team where she participates in numerous quality, information technology, and nursing committees. She is a part of the National Surgical Quality Improvement Project (NSQIP) team and a Vascular Quality Improvement (VQI) abstractor. She was instrumental in establishing a pulmonary embolism response team (PERT).
Kristan monitors all inferior venous cava filter (IVCF) insertions for prompt follow-up and retrievals after discussions with the patients’ other providers to determine permanency. She has given talks at national and regional quality meetings regarding her team’s excellence in IVCF retrieval rates.
She reviews all VTE events in the hospital for appropriate prophylaxis and treatment and maintains them in a database that is used for quality improvement and research. She is a resource for anticoagulation.
She participates in community service related to VTE awareness. She is a member of the American Venous Forum, Vascular Quality Initiative, American Vein & Lymphatic Society, Society for Vascular Nursing, American Academy of Nurse Practitioners, and Sigma Theta Tau.
She has presented numerous winning posters at national vascular conferences, is a national speaker on current VTE standards, and has published research in journals and articles in non-peer-reviewed journals.
